Welcome

Welcome to the Catholic community of Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Parish, Lurnea.

We are a warm welcoming parish, supportive and caring.
Our parish was established in 1965 and is on the South Western border of the Sydney Archdiocese. We have over 5000 parishioners.

The parish contains two primary schools; St Francis Xavier, Lurnea and St Catherine of Siena, Prestons. Both are excellent schools offering first class education.

We have a vast number of ministries within the parish, to name a few, sfxYouth Youth Group, Care Group, Craft Group and Catechists who strive to bring the Good News to the four surrounding public schools.

St Francis Xavier’s Sacramental Program has a dedicated team who prepare the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation.
Parents teach and provide the spiritual knowledge along with the Sacramental team to enrich their children.

Together with the Parish Council, we are making our community an inclusive one, allowing every parishioner to feel included.

MISSION STATEMENT FOR THE PARISH OF ST FRANCIS XAVIER.

As members of the Catholic parish of St Francis Xavier in the Archdiocese of Sydney, through our baptism and our commitment to the Gospel, we share in the mission of Jesus, who is “the Way, the Truth and the Life.”

We seek to be attentive to the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit as we

  • Gather to receive the Word of God in the scriptures and offer thanks in the Eucharist,
  • Witness our life in Christ by sharing the Gospel with others,
  • Provide formation in the faith at every stage of the Christian journey,
  • Respond with compassion to spiritual and corporal needs within our parish communities and beyond
  • Nurture the talents and resources we have received and use them wisely.

We Live our faith in fellowship with other Christian congregations and in communion with the Archdiocese of Sydney and the universal church.
